Connie Hockenberry’s Spiced Tea

The year was 1974.  We moved onto Cromwell Avenue next door to the Hockenberry’s, and they introduced us to many new things. Border collies, Donna Summer, Perdue chicken, Baklava, Pistichu, stuffed grape leaves, Greek festivals, 7-layer Jello salad, wine coolers, Yanni, sheer window treatments and so much more.  And also this Spiced Tea recipe.

Connie had it going on.  Now and forever Connie Hockenberry rocks!

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups Tang
  • 1/2 cup instant powdered tea with lemon
  • 2 envelopes powdered Lemonade Mix (approx. size of hot chocolate envelopes)
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 Tablespoons whole cloves (Since whole cloves need to be strained out, Dottie usually omits them and adds more ground cloves).

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in dry mason jar with lid. Store in cupboard until you're ready to make tea.
  2. Add two Tablespoons tea mix to 8 ounces of boiling water. Stir, strain out cloves and enjoy.
